A primary object should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? And what duty more pressing than communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country?”

Our Mission

Cooperation and Innovation in Citizenship (CIVIC) works to engage undergraduate students with each other in conversation about policy, current events, and the fundamental principles that drive American democracy. At CIVIC, we strive to facilitate civil, meaningful, and productive conversation among students of all different political backgrounds and experiences.

Since its founding at Tufts University in 2015, CIVIC has grown and expanded to include a wide range of political opinions and students of all ages, and we have worked to ensure that CIVIC remains a safe but challenging environment where students must consider their opinions and articulate their thoughts to a wider audience. As Tufts only multipartisan community, CIVIC has become an outlet for many students to engage in weekly political discussions, learn civic action skills, and develop friendships with those across the political spectrum.
