A primary object should be the education of our youth in the science of government. In a republic, what species of knowledge can be equally important? And what duty more pressing than communicating it to those who are to be the future guardians of the liberties of the country?”

Our Mission

Cooperation and Innovation in Citizenship (CIVIC) engages Tufts University undergraduate students in conversation about policy, current events, and the fundamental principles that drive American democracy. At CIVIC, we work to facilitate civil, meaningful, and productive conversation among students of all different political backgrounds.

Since its founding in 2015, CIVIC has grown and expanded to include a wide range of political opinions and lived experiences. We do our best to ensure that CIVIC remains a safe but challenging environment where students must consider their viewpoints and articulate their thoughts to a wider audience. As Tufts only nonpartisan political community, CIVIC is an outlet for many students to engage in weekly political discussions, learn civic action skills, and develop friendships with those across the political spectrum.
