Debates

giving every voice a podium

Every semester, CIVIC brings student political groups together to discuss key policy issues in front of audiences of over 100 students. These biannual events began in 2016 during the presidential election with Tufts Democrats and Tufts Republicans, and have since expanded to include the Left Unity Project.

CIVIC debates provide a platform for political groups to publicly express and represent their club's message and platform. The debates are committed to the same principles by which CIVIC is run: civility, conversation, and a thoughtful discussion of relevant issues. Debate questions focus on the most pressing issues of the time. Past topics include immigration, health care, and the environment.
